Let’s face it, most of us have gossiped at one point or another. I think Chelsea can represent all of us in some way. I really enjoyed that Speechless focused on Chelsea, rather than the victim. Speechless follows Chelsea’s story as she takes a vow of silence in an effort to not ruin anymore lives. She spreads rumors and gossips as a hobby, up until this hobby of hers nearly costs someone their life. Chelsea Knot has a problem keeping her mouth shut. The issue at the core of this book deals with bullying and hate crimes, but instead of focusing on the victim, it focuses on someone who was once part of the abuse (ok, I’m putting it a bit extreme here, but you get my point) and the transformation she goes through as she learns the impact of words.

I’m glad I finally got to it, because it was such an interesting book! I put way too many books on hold at the library, and since I own this one I had to keep setting it aside for something else. If only she can forgive herself.įirst off, it took me forever to finish reading this book. If only her new friends can forgive what she’s done. And if she thinks keeping secrets is hard, not speaking up when she’s ignored, ridiculed and even attacked is worse.īut there’s strength in silence, and in the new friends who are, shockingly, coming her way-people she never noticed before a boy she might even fall for. Now Chelsea has taken a vow of silence-to learn to keep her mouth shut, and to stop hurting anyone else. Because the last secret she shared turned her into a social outcast-and nearly got someone killed. Everyone knows that Chelsea Knot can’t keep a secret
